Cala en Porter
The cala en Porter beach is located very close to one of the largest residential areas on the south coast of Menorca. Nestled between high cliffs that block the incoming swell, it is a natural pool ideal for families spending their holidays in Menorca with children.
Cala en Porter is one of the best beaches to visit with children in Menorca thanks to the usual lack of waves and the shallow waters. The beach has fine white sand and is wide enough to enjoy comfortably. However, during the summer months it is often quite crowded with the many foreign holidaymakers staying in the adjacent residential area.
The cala en Porter beach has all the typical services of tourist beaches, such as sun loungers, parasols and pedal boats. In addition to the lifeguard service, there is also a promenade with bars and restaurants with terraces. In summer, a safety buoy barrier is installed to protect swimmers from the numerous boats that anchor in the cove.
Cala en Porter is a beach of contrasts. It is enclosed by high cliffs and is only urbanised on one of its sides by one of the largest residential developments in Menorca. At the back you will find the small wetland formed by the mouth of the Cala en Porter stream, currently channelled in its final section.
On the urbanised cliff you will find the Cova d’en Xoroi, one of the most visited nightclubs in Menorca during the summer. It is located in a natural cave with terraces offering stunning sea views. Despite being a landmark of Menorca’s nightlife, it can also be visited during the day. It is one of the best places to watch the sunset, with a drink included.
Cala en Porter is the starting point of one of the best kayak routes in Menorca, where you can explore different caves from the sea: Cala en Porter – Calescoves by kayak. At the end of the promenade you will find a launching ramp ideal for entering the sea with a kayak.
As you can see, on the cala en Porter beach you can do many things, but not everything is possible here. As with most urbanised beaches in Menorca, I do not recommend practising nudism, as you will not find any discreet corner that allows it.
In the cala en Porter residential area you have all kinds of services at your disposal: there is no shortage of places to eat such as bars, pizzerias and restaurants, nor of accommodation options such as apartment rentals, hotels or aparthotels. In summer you will also find car hire, supermarkets and a varied nightlife.
How to get to cala en Porter
Access to cala en Porter. You can get there from Alaior (11.17 km) via the cala en Porter road, but if you are coming from Maó, it is better to take the cala en Porter road that leaves from San Climent (12.14 km). Once you reach the beach, right next to it you will find a car park where you can leave your vehicle.

What to do in cala en Porter
Apart from enjoying the beach, taking kayak excursions or visiting the Cova d’en Xoroi, in the surroundings of cala en Porter you have many opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities, such as hiking, visiting nearby archaeological sites or even enjoying its own local festivities. • Cala en Porter ravine: One of the ravines on the south coast of Menorca that you can walk through starting directly from the beach. An ideal walk to enjoy Menorca’s nature with children, where you will find, among other things, the S’hort Squella pecan trees, listed as singular trees by the Government of the Balearic Islands.
• Camí de Cavalls: cala en Porter is the starting and ending point of two stages of the Camí de Cavalls. Taking the trail eastwards you can reach Binissafúller, passing through Calescoves, where one of the most important Talayotic-period necropolises in Menorca is located. Heading west you will reach the Son Bou beach, first crossing the cala en Porter ravine.

• Festivities of cala en Porter: The cala en Porter residential area has celebrated its own festivities since 1974. Although they are not patron saint festivals like those of other towns in Menorca, they have become a true summer tradition in this tourist area of Alaior. Today they are still very much alive and retain a special atmosphere thanks to events held right by the beach, such as the traditional jaleo, with a large number of horses and riders. Dates: third weekend of September.
