Cala Mitjana and Cala Mitjaneta beaches
The Cala Mitjana and Cala Mitjaneta area is one of those landscapes that leaves no one indifferent and that everyone wants to enjoy at least once: an unspoilt beach, surrounded by pine trees, with turquoise and crystal-clear waters that invite you to swim.
This is why Cala Mitjana is one of the most photographed and crowded unspoilt beaches in Menorca during the summer months. Between July and August, you’ll need to go very early in the morning to enjoy it in peace, as it tends to get so crowded that it exceeds its optimal carrying capacity.
Cala Mitjana is the natural outlet of the ravine that bears the same name. It is a white, fine sandy beach where, depending on the time of year, you can find remains of posidonia.
Cala Mitjana is enclosed between the typical limestone cliffs of Menorca’s south coast, characterised by their light colour. Those on the left side of the beach, facing the horizon, are especially spectacular. On the right side, where the cliffs are lower and more discreet, you will find Cala Mitjaneta, a small cove for just a few people, very pleasant, although it does not always have sand.
How to get to Cala Mitjana
Cala Mitjana is about 8 km from Ferreries. From there you should head towards Cala Galdana. Shortly before reaching this famous beach, on the left-hand side, you will find signposts and a free car park. The path to Cala Mitjana, about 1 km long, goes through a wooded area and takes around 20 minutes downhill (and uphill on the way back). The path is fully prepared (except for the first few metres) and crosses a splendid holm oak forest. Along the way you will see many remains of the former forestry activity in the area, such as lime kilns, charcoal pits and livestock huts. All these cultural features are marked with information panels.
Whether you come from Maó or from Ciutadella, you do not need to enter the town of Ferreries. You will find the road to Cala Galdana signposted at a roundabout on the main road near Ferreries.
Public transport: During the tourist season, there are several bus lines to Cala Galdana that stop just a few metres from the Cala Mitjana car park. Check the season, timetables and frequencies of the different lines from Maó–Alaior–Es Mercadal (51), Ciutadella (52) and Ferreries (53). You can also walk from Cala Galdana in about 20 minutes along a short stretch of the Camí de Cavalls of just over 1 km, starting from the Sa Punta viewpoint.
