Son Saura del Nord beach
The Son Saura del Nord sandy beach is a large beach with fine white sand, urbanised, and home to one of the largest and most spectacular dune systems in Menorca.
The Son Saura del Nord Beach is also known as Son Parc Beach, named after the surrounding residential area, where the island’s only golf course is located. It should not be confused with the Son Saura del Sud beaches in south of Ciutadella.
The beach is large and wide, which makes it relatively comfortable even when crowded. The sand is fine and white, and the waters are clear and shallow, making it a good option if you are travelling with children, as the car park is very close and access to the beach is easy. However, if the wind blows from the north, it can become uncomfortable and dangerous for young children. Before going to Son Saura, it is important to check sea conditions; if northern winds are forecast, it is better to choose a more sheltered beach or head to the south coast.
On the beach itself there is a restaurant and rental services for sun loungers, parasols, pedal boats and kayaks.
The Son Parc residential area offers all kinds of services: bars and restaurants are plentiful, as well as accommodation options such as apartments, hotels and aparthotels. In summer, car rental services and supermarkets are also available.
Despite having a large urban development nearby, the Son Saura del Nord Beach preserves its western shoreline in a natural state, features an impressive dune system, and is close to one of the most important wetland areas in northern Menorca. The dunes of Son Saura del Nord can reach over 10 metres in height and have been restored thanks to a management and recovery plan involving various protection measures, such as deterrent cordons and wooden walkways that connect the residential area with the beach to prevent people from walking on the dunes.
How to get to Son Saura del Nord Beach
Access to Son Saura del Nord or Son Parc beach: The Son Saura del Nord Beach is located 23 km from Maó, 14.4 km from Alaior, and 13 km from Es Mercadal. From Maó, take the Fornells road from the roundabout at the far end of the port of Maó. After 16 km, turn right towards the Son Parc residential area and follow the signs to the beach car park on the left. Both Es Mercadal and Fornells are approximately 13 km away. The road to Maó (and Son Parc) lies between these two towns. Take this road and turn left after 4.5 km towards Son Parc.

Public transport: There is a bus line connecting Maó, Es Mercadal and Fornells with the Son Parc residential area, Arenal d’en Castell and Cala Tirant. Check bus timetables and frequencies to Son Parc depending on the time of year.
Things to do at Son Saura del Nord
• Camí de Cavalls: The Son Saura del Norte Beach lies along stage 4 of the Camí de Cavalls, between Arenal d’en Castell and Cala Tirant, passing by the remains of the early Christian basilica of Cap des Port. • Cala Pudent: Walking just over 1 km along the unspoilt western shoreline, you will reach a group of unspoilt coves around Cala Pudent. This beach gets its name from the amount of posidonia that usually accumulates there, although the small coves before reaching it are often free of posidonia.
• Son Saura del Nord Wetland: An interesting wetland area used as a breeding site, stopover during migration and wintering ground for many bird species. It is not equipped for visits; to reach it, follow the Camí de Cavalls towards Cala Tirant and turn left almost immediately.
• Forest Park: In the pine forest of the Son Parc residential area there is a large public park with different play areas and activities for all ages, including climbing structures, zip lines, children’s playgrounds, picnic tables and more.
