Do you know the 7 lighthouses in Menorca? The lonely isolated locations of the majority of lighthouses, along with their singular silhouettes, have always meant that these unmistakeable symbols of coastal areas are much appreciated by many people.

Their main raison d’être is to avoid accidents and tragedies and guarantee safe sailing. Over the centuries violent storms off the shores of Menorca have caused numerous shipwrecks and led to the construction of lighthouses both at the entrances to the ports of Maó and Ciutadella and on the island’s principal headlands. The last lighthouse to be built on Menorca was that of Favàritx, inaugurated in 1922. It is hard to say why, but a walk around a lighthouse is always a comforting experience!
