The island, also known as The Bloody Island, is in the middle of the Maó harbour, between Maó and Es Castell villages, where we find the old military hospital built by the British during their domination.
All these routes are within S’Albufera des Grau Natural Park, Menorca’s only natural park. The coast here is formed of low-lying siliceous rocks with sand dunes and small beaches.
Much of this stage of the Camí de Cavalls runs through the S’Albufera des Grau Natural Park and many of its very diverse landscapes.
Favàritx lighthouse stands at the extreme north-east of the island, a little over 17 km from Maó. Its tower is 28-m high, white with a black spiral band, which gives it a very intimate appearance.

If you are visiting Menorca with young children, you should know that Es Grau beach is the family beach par excellence in Menorca. It is the largest beach in the S’Albufera des Grau Natural Park, is protected by Colom Island, and is located next to the summer resort village of Es Grau.
The beach is associated with the summer residential area of Sa Mesquida, where many families from Maó spend their summers. As it is very well preserved and relatively separated from the urbanised area, it is a practically unspoilt beach.
