Cavalleria beach<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Cavalleria beach is one of the largest beaches on the north coast of Menorca. Unspoilt, surrounded by rugged nature, with no services, easy car access and watched over by the Cavalleria Lighthouse. A must-see.<\/h2>\n

Cavalleria beach<\/strong>, almost 500 metres long, has coarse sand with a gold tone and is divided in two by the Ferragut reef<\/strong>. The eastern part of the beach, the one you reach first from the car park, is much sandier than the western section. If you enjoy snorkelling<\/em>, keep in mind that the seabed also differs between the two areas: rockier in the west and sandier in the east. Here you\u2019ll find the best snorkelling spots in Menorca<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cavalleria beach<\/strong> is very exposed to the Tramuntana wind, which can make it a dangerous beach under these conditions. To avoid unpleasant conditions and enjoy a calm swim, it is advisable to check the weather forecast<\/a> before visiting.<\/p>\n

One of the most outstanding natural values of the beach is its dune system, which extends more than 1 km inland to the south. Posidonia usually does not accumulate on this beach. Associated with Cavalleria beach<\/strong> you will find Cala Roja<\/strong>, a small beach of sand and pebbles, more sheltered from northern winds, less frequented and with an interesting and diverse seabed. You can reach it along the same access path, just before descending to Cavalleria beach<\/strong>, on the right.<\/p>\n

Just before going down to the beach, you\u2019ll find this viewpoint with a great panoramic view and picnic tables where you can admire the landscape.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

<\/i><\/span> It is important to follow the access path and not leave it, especially in the final section, where there is a wooden staircase specifically built to reach the beach while preventing erosion of the environment.<\/p>\n

<\/i><\/span> Cavalleria beach<\/strong> has a high geological value dominated by clays, as in Cala Pregonda<\/strong><\/a> or Cala Pilar<\/strong><\/a>. In recent years, clay baths using these natural materials have become popular, especially near the access stairs. Clay bathing erodes the base of the cliffs<\/strong>, causing instability in their upper parts. This can lead to rockfalls, posing a risk to beach users. It also causes uprooting of vegetation and coastline retreat, destroying a non-renewable resource, as these clays are very ancient rocks. Try to ensure that your visit to Menorca\u2019s natural areas leaves no trace.<\/strong><\/p>\n

How to get to Cavalleria beach<\/strong><\/h2>\n

<\/i> <\/i> Cavalleria beach<\/strong> is 30 km from Ma\u00f3<\/strong><\/a> and 10 km from Es Mercadal<\/strong>. From Ma\u00f3<\/strong><\/a>, take the Fornells road<\/strong>, which starts at the roundabout at the end of the Port of Ma\u00f3<\/strong>. The road ends at another roundabout, which you must cross to continue along the Cam\u00ed de Tramuntana<\/strong> until you find, on the right-hand side, the road to the Cavalleria Lighthouse<\/strong><\/a>. After 3 km, you will find the beach car park on the left. From there, you must walk about 400 m along a dirt path and go down a wooden staircase to reach the beach. There is a small bar at the car park.<\/p>\n

\u2022<\/span> Cavalleria Lighthouse:<\/span><\/strong> Located at Cap de Cavalleria<\/strong> (4 km from the beach), the northernmost point of the island and perched on one of Menorca\u2019s highest and most impressive cliffs. \u2022<\/span> Cam\u00ed de Cavalls:<\/span><\/strong> Cavalleria beach<\/strong> lies along stage 5 of the Cam\u00ed de Cavalls<\/a><\/strong> between Cala Tirant<\/strong> and Binimel\u00b7l\u00e0 beach<\/strong><\/a>. \u2022<\/span> Cala Mica:<\/span><\/strong> A small beach of sand and pebbles located 2 km from Cavalleria beach<\/strong>, following the Cam\u00ed de Cavalls<\/a><\/strong> towards Binimel\u00b7l\u00e0 beach<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u2022<\/span> Roman city of Sanitja:<\/span><\/strong> Remains of the ancient Roman city of Sanisera<\/strong> (1st century BC \u2013 6th century AD), established around the natural harbour of Sanitja<\/strong>, at Cap de Cavalleria<\/strong>. Archaeological excavations provide insight into the commercial activity of this Roman settlement.<\/p>\n

\u2022<\/span> Sanitja defence tower:<\/span><\/strong> A defence tower built by the British in 1801 during their third period of rule (1798\u20131802). It stands at the entrance to the Port of Sanitja. More information about British Menorca monuments<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u2022<\/span> Lluriac wetland:<\/span><\/strong> One of Menorca\u2019s main wetlands, also known as Prat de Lluriac<\/strong>, a must-visit spot for birdwatching enthusiasts.
